VTGirlT My girls hackles are very noticeable!
She doesn't look like my sisters dog when her hackles go up (She looks like a ridgeback!) But my coaties hackles make her look bigger.
I'll try and get a picture sometime, if i can remember!

This is what I'm guessing, he hackles, it's just subdued due to the hair length. I just thought it would be more noticeable.

SunCzarina I forget the technical term but an alert confident dog will raise just the hackles on his withers. A dog who's more likely to run at you and bite will raise the hackles all the way down the back. I see it in my 14 month old female, she's not sure what to do yet to be scary - nor is she sure she wants to be - so it all goes up and it seems silly to me.

Hackles and Coaties

I'm guessing coaties can raise their hackles, but the length of hair doesn't allow it to stand like my stock coat? Or maybe some dogs don't get excited enough to have a piloerection? Ranger does get excited at times, but I've never noticed him doing this, Zoey looks like a porcupine when she does it.
