"German Shepherd Dogs are now bred throughout the world but they have been split into many
I guess I am confused about your comment regarding "....one dog type, not several" ?? And yes, I am easily confused.

German Shepherd is a German breed and one dog type, not several. In order to breed them they have to be checked at Schutzhund competition regardless of their looks - that is German standard. The original purpose to breed GSD - to breed a Superintellect - didn't lose its actuality.

|cliffson1||If incestous breeding of mammals has often resulted in higher incidences of chronic/genetic defects and illnesses, would our passion for what we like blind us to this in the different types we have created? Just speculating....if this is the case, maybe there is a corellation between higher genetic saturation and increased health/mental health issues. I dunno.|

I wonder if the differences between show and working include medical issues?
When I think about all the GSDs I know that have medical issues like HD, ED, EPI,, thyroid etc, these dogs are all show line.
I wonder if medical issues are just as prominent in working lines.

Very small sample..62 dogs from 3 different lines?
Not really sure how conclusive that can be...
I wonder what the difference is with the mixed line dogs? If show line or working were more dominant? that sort of thing

In response to your " Like none of us here would be clustered together"....."Although scientists have long recognised that, despite physical differences, all human populations are genetically similar, the new work concludes that populations from different parts of the world share even more genetic similarities than previously assumed" Scientists state "all humans are 99.9 per cent identical and, of that tiny 0.1 per cent difference, 94 per cent of the variation is among individuals from the same populations and only six per cent between individuals from different populations."
