I emailed their company. I'm certain something is wrong with it. She's okay though. Busy destroying her no stuff raccoon. Ambulatory and alert. But I don't like playing with things that smell like that either way.

Thanks for the responses!

PHXGSD ok, well I threw it in the wash and i'm keeping a very very close eye on her for any abnormal signs. It was normal smell to me before I introduced it to her. Then after slobber got on it I smelled it.

Normal as in no turpentine or other chemical like smell. I didn't notice anything unusual when I received it, we ordered it from amazon too. Its 14-16" (?) jute with two yellow handles.

Nigel Dean&Tyler? I have a jute one from them, but it did smell normal when new, at least from what I could tell, now it smells like dog slobber.

onyx'girl Where did you get it? D&T is where?

PHXGSD I've smelled burlap many times before. But not jute. It has a scent of something-o-sene.

onyx'girl burlap and jute do have a distinctive scent.
It is just the natural way the fiber smells.

PHXGSD p.s. - my ol' factory identifies it as something similar to the scent of turpentine. Some sort of chemical. However, the handles do not smell of it.
