onyx'girl Vitamin E should be supplemented every few days when you give fish oil. E is depleted(fat stored) with the Omega supplement. I feed raw so give e every now and then, but most organ meat, eggs contain E naturally so I seldom give it. And it should be with mixed trochepherols.
I do give Natural C as I have a dog with allergies and C helps support the immune system and acts as a natural antihistamine. C isn't stored, but flushed so can be given daily. I'd rather give vitamins in whole foods but now and then it is hard to do...

Susan_GSD_mom I started my two on fish oil because the female I acquired last December began itching as soon as I got her almost. She came from living in a kennel into our house with forced air heating, dry even though we run a humidifier. I put them both on fish oil capsules, and she does itch less, but his coat is absolutely beautiful, the best I've seen him in the year I've had him. Yes, he shed much earlier than I would have thought, and I am wondering whether he will shed again when Spring is actually here.

Question--I read on this forum a while back that if you are giving fish oil, they should also have vitamin C. Can anyone explain why? Thanks!

onyx'girl This Winter has been the worst(thickest coats on my dogs yet) Onyx for some reason blew her coat a few weeks ago, I was getting tufts out of her like never before. The other two haven't started yet but it will be a wild one when they do.
I think Onyx's coat shed because she was on Prednisone for awhile in the late fall. I have no other explanation for it.
She still has more coat than she's ever had though~and it is still below 0 every night.

onyx'girl It doesn't control shedding, but does help the skin and coat to stay healthy. Dogs need to shed, and usually daylight hour length is what triggers it(coat blows)

Fish oil

Has anyone tried or heard of using fish oil to help control shedding?
