|Liesje||Ordered the Weber today, hoping to have it delivered Monday night while DH is in class. I went to the store and got the cover and the propane tank. I'll have to hid these in the garage while he's out tomorrow morning. His parents are coming Tuesday and he thinks we're meeting them at a restaurant at 6:30 but really they're coming over at 5 and he'll get to grill steaks. Never mind it'll be 15 degrees outside!|

|Liesje||Our heat, dryer, and stove are all gas so luckily we can still use the stove with no power (and run the bottom broiler to heat the kitchen!).|

We use propane. We have a larger 3 burner with side burner. The reason for that is since our house is all electric when the power goes out we can cook pretty much anything with the grill. We have a generator for our fridge and freezer. But we live in Moore Oklahoma so everything is preparing for storms it seems.

I have a Weber, we bought it last year for my birthday, I told dh I wanted a steak dinner, he took me to Home Depot to buy a grill and the butcher shop to buy my steaks. Then I cooked them LOL. Charcoal itself has come a long way, we buy, they look like charred pieces of wood, they come in all different flavours. I love it and we bbq year round.
I said I didn't want a cake for my birthday, watching calories, so he bought me Birthday Cake Vodka - it was awesome!

I'm going for the small, simple two burner Weber. We don't need a side burner. We don't have a huge yard and would like to roll it into the garage for the winter or while we travel so don't want something huge. Apparently you can still cook for a whole family or do a 20lb bird on it so it should be plenty.
I want it to be a surprise so I'll probably have the store assemble it for me. I'm fairly handy and have tools but....fire/gas has always scared me so I'd be afraid to turn it on and test my handiwork, lol! I'll re-light the pilots on our stove but my dad has to do the pilots for the water heater, etc.

I second the chimney starter. I have 2. If you use natural charcoal, you can be ready in 10 to 15 minutes.

I don't know if you can still get them, but years ago my grandfather had an electric coal starter thing. It was put under the coals and would heat them up quickly. Cut the wait time in half. We were using those little rectangular heavy metal grills (hibachi?).
They also make nice grills with two sides. One for gas and one for charcoal. Friends have one. Theirs also has a smoker, but I'll bet you could get a model without.
