Blanketback My puppy went from being afraid of cars to wanting to chase them, lol. It would be weird to see this big loud thing rushing towards you, if you'd never seen that before, for these baby puppies. I didn't think it was odd that it would intimidate him, and I knew he'd get used to them. I didn't think he'd end up lunging at them though, lol.

MaggieRoseLee He's really a baby, wouldn't worry about the car thing, just be aware

Much more important to be working on http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum...s-puppies.html and watch the last 2 videos that I just added on 2/2/14.

My vet said, when Hans was little, that there could be all sorts of sick dogs, some incubating Parvo, there.

I asked her if I could hold him and bring him there, but she said it would be better to stay away altogether. Also, she said not to go on walks where other dogs can be, because there could be poop from sick animals that he might inadvertently step in or sniff.

Keep it fun, make outings positive. Bring toys and treats, put him on a flexi leash so he can explore, and keep him in the yard for now.
Plenty of time for the big world out there when the puppy is older.
And I would avoid the pet store until he has had all his vaccinations.

i would also drive my pup somewhere so he could experience a new area.
driving the pup somewhere will help with getting use to car rides.
Thanks. I will try that too

AndreaLS687 He's around 8 weeks old. W have only had him for a few days so I haven't taken him anywhere yet. I plan on taking him to the pet store so I can get him another toy so I will see how he does in the car. I guess I should also ask...should I put him in the cargo area of my van or should I keep him up front with me? He always seems calmer when he is closer to me.

MaggieRoseLee How old is he?

I know my GSD pups don't tend to initially like to leave the yard period.

So I just use the yard for the general poops/pees. And for exercise, pack the pup in the car and go somewhere new.

How does he do when you put him in the car and drive somewhere for all your socialization trips? http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum...pies-dogs.html

otto is afraid of moving cars

I wanted to take my pup out for his first walk yesterday but he would not leave our yard after he saw a car drive by. He was terrified. I know not to reassure him with petting but what can I do to get him over this fear? He doesn't have much energy now but I know as the weeks go by he will sleep less and need the exercise.
