Once upon a NE Ohio November, I went to this religious retreat weekend about 30 miles away. There was a lady there from Mountain Homel, Arkansas. She was so excited because we might get snow.
We did get snow.
Lots of snow.
Friday night the lights went out.
All heat was blankets and wood fires. The guys in the kitchen crew were kept busy filling the fires and getting water out of the swimming pool to flush all the toilets. (It was a women's weekend.)
The guys were cool though. On Saturday afternoon, the built a snow man for the lady from Mountain Home, outside the window.
It was a memorable weekend. Lots of snow. Tons of snow.
The camp was at the bottom of this huge winding hill. Which was snow covered and icy. Going home, the weary Kitchen crew was out there helping people get their vehicles up that hill.

|Gharrissc||I kept talking about snow, but after about three days in a row of it, plus ice I am glad the warmer temps are coming.|

I am an essential employee. It was taking people 5.5 hours to get home. I took the secondary roads and made it home in about an hour and a half. Roads were fine. A nice thick layer of snow.
We got 6" yesterday, then 1/2" of ice on top at home. Driving into the office this morning it looked like the Zombie Apocalypse. Cars abandon on both sides of the road, nobody out there (thankfully).
Now they are calling for an additional few inches today. Everyone rush out and get Milk and Bread while there is a window...!!! <insert sarcasm>
If we just received snow, there wouldn't be a problem. In the south, when it snows, it always comes with a nice thick layer of ice. We usually get the ice first, then it turns to snow. They plow the snow off and we are left with ice. Now we have zero traction. God forbid they don't plow, the people would lynch the governor. Things usually start to melt within two days, then it refreezes. Everyone was driving fine yesterday afternoon so the next morning they find the black ice and here we go again.

Where I live I park on the street and after plowing the roads there is about a foot of ice you have to get over to get out to the plowed part of the street. My 4X4 handles it without any problem I have never had an accident in the snow. I love it and would not trade it for any other vehicle.|

4x4 just gives idiots false security. I do have one but I don't drive in the snow unless essential.......to many other ya-hoos down here who don't know how to drive it in.
We got 4" last measurement/upstate SC. No ice but the low country of SC got slammed with ice.

It's scheduled here to be 75 on Friday and 77 on Monday. It was 27 when I drove into work this morning.
Texas, if you don't like the weather, wait a couple of hours.

|FirefighterGSD||We just got over a foot overnight here in MD and more on the way throughout the day and evening. They another 1-3" clipper on Friday. Yuck. I remember when I lived in SC that if it flurried everyone would run around in Parka coats freaking out. LOL.|

|brembo||We got over a foot west of you. It's not uncommon to get a few inches at a time in the mountains, but when it gets over a foot the infrastructure can't hack it. I went grocery shopping before the storm and got lots of items I can grill and lots of water. I'm set for a good while. The butcher looked at me funny when I asked for fat scraps, the dogs however looked at me like I was a god.|
