My intention here is to not start a debate on 'alpha' but an alpha male doesn't participate in many dog fights, he doesn't need to and will generally only if he needs to establish himself, so imo this dog and your other dog is not alpha, possibly dominant but then a lot of GSD dogs (male) are. My experience with intact dogs and bitches is that my fixed dog and bitch are very interested in them, in a good way, they are not interested in fighting with the intact one, just interested. Often the fixed love the intact ones, it is only when you get 2 intact males together that you may experience serious fights - but this does depend on the control of the owner.

The fact that you frequent dog parks often with your intact male means you have to be careful, you probably wouldn't want to go in if there was another intact male there, and of course if some stupid owner has bought along their bitch in season that is ready to go!

SoCal Rebell Unfortunately here in Cali to license an un-neutered dog is $500 because he is considered a breeder, still only 1/3 of what I payed for him. Last GSD Cutter I bred and got a $1,000 stud fee, but he had SchH credentials.

this is exactly what happened with my pup
he began showing a lot of aggression
about 8-9 months
so we had him done 10 months
he looks just fine

Neko We are honestly not seeing any issues with Zeus being intact besides his friends are starting to be less friendly... puppy licence expired. And we also now have a female pup so before she is old enough he needs to be fixed.

Shaolin You should wait at least until a year. My personal opinion is that, if you can control your male dog and can keep him from getting after any female in heat, then there's no reason for neutering.

My breeder didn't even want me to consider neutering until 2. I haven't neutered any of my male dogs, but I guess I've been very lucky in never having male dog issues, so it's never really been a thought.

shepherdmom My vet said 18 months, I trust her judgement but don't know if I can stand an intact male that long.
