How is an on-line trainer going to help you? They can't see you, can't see the dog, can't determine where you are with the basics and the relationship you have with your dog. Still no excuse whatsoever to talk down to you.

Find a real trainer, one that can observe how you and your dog mesh (or don't mesh), and can SHOW you what you need to change and do to improve the situation.

E.Hatch No, the human is the customer since they are the one footing the bill and learning to train their dog. The human is paying for a service and should be treated respectfully if the trainer wants them to come back or to recommend future clients to him. It's called "customer service".

doggiedad the dog is the customer but he doesn't pay the bill.

[QUOTE=Galathiel;4983474]I wouldn't pay someone to be condescending or insulting to me. I have a problem rewarding rude behavior. There are much more effective ways to communicate and if you have customers, you need to utilize them!

volcano Dog trainers are really human trainers, and he doesnt have it down. I wouldnt leave if youve paid in advance. But be on your toes and call him out if he keeps a condescending attitude.

Agree!!! There was absolutely no reason for the trainer to talk to you like that.
Keep looking until you find someone you are comfortable with and treats you with respect.

blackshep I agree, find another trainer. That's why he's the trainer and you're the student, a good trainer should encourage you to ask questions so you understand what is going on and why you are doing things.

He sounds like a condescending a-hole, if you ask me.

wyoung2153 Exactly what Castlemaid said.. back to basics.. second i would go to a different trainer if you can't ask him questions like that.. that would infuriate me, I ask way to many questions to be shut down by someone who doesn't know why people don't know things.. lol.

Does that give you a better idea of what you need to do or do you want further help on what that means too?
