gagsd 10, 12, and 14 were the ages of my oldest GSDs. Euthanasia chosen on all. First had several issues (health and behavior), next lost control of rear end, and third bloated.
Cora will be 13 this year.

Castlemaid Most of the GSDs that I have known over the last few years passed around 9 - 10 years old, mostly from a number of health issues like DM, Cancer, bad hips, etc. This includes rescue dogs from pet lines, and working dogs from known pedigrees.

Sp00ks I had one pass at almost 16 and another pass just before her 9th birthday. Those are our two extremes. I would agree with MaggieRoseLee that 12 years is probably the average.

MaggieRoseLee I'd say normal is more like 12 yrs.

LaRen616 It seems like we lose a lot of GSDs on here at 9 years old.

I think the average though is 9-11 years.

First, what do you consider the average lifespan of the German Shepherd Dog?

Second, are some lines more long lived than others?

You'd think some info would be out there for lines and lifespan.

The average age they live, on sites that list, seem longer than normal today.

Appreciate responses,
