CJthePuppy Y'all come up with the best ideas. I think we will start by moving the kennel.

The nails on the plastic drives me crazy. We sleep with a fan anyways but it didn't help last night.

Liesje A few suggestions...

You could move the crate to another room, if this doesn't make her louder (she might be used to seeing someone at night).

If you don't mind the noise, you can run a box fan in the room. This is what I do every night. It covers the noise of dogs walking on the hardwood or dogs moving around in a crate.

If she's in a wire crate and doesn't have accidents, you could take the tray out. I hate hearing dogs clicking or scraping around on the plastic trays so I just take them out. Our bedroom crate sits on a rug. If I don't want the dog touching the rug I put an old towel in the crate.

CJthePuppy That's probably the best idea. Thank you.

wyoung2153 If she won't settle in the crate I would think about moving it to another room. I have never had other dog's kennels in Titan's sleeping area unless it was for a LONG time. They have always been in the living room. My room was mine and Titan's place. But that's just my opinion about that part.

CJthePuppy She whines at first but then kind of settles herself down and will just sit there. What keeps me up is her moving around. She tries to scratch at the floor in the kennel. She won't just lay down and go to sleep.

I just want to make this time comfortable for her.

wyoung2153 I wouldn't worry too much about her not sleeping, she will sleep when she is tired. She's just getting used to the new routine and probably doesn't understand why she can't come up there when "mommy and daddy let me" lol.

I had Titan watched for 8 months when I was deployed and he did almost the same thing in regards to the couch when I got him home. Would just stare at me because I wouldn't let him up there.. later learning that for the last 8 months he's been on the couch at the friends house.. lol. He got used to it.

Does she whine or anything or just sit there?

wyoung2153 Ok if I am reading this correctly.. the lab wants to sleep in your bed? But you don't want to let him/her?

I puppy sit a lot, and regardless if the dog is used to a kennel or not, they are crated at night because most of the dogs I watch aren't that trustworthy or well behaved. Personally.. if you aren't worried about him/her detroying things, I would just let it be.. soon enough he/she will get the idea that they need to sleep because they are not coming in the bed. That or, what I would do, is just crate the lab. They will get used to that too.

Babysitting need advice!

We are babysitting a yellow lab who is basically CJs best friend. However she isn't used to sleeping in her kennel and stayed up all night just staring at our bed. The problem is CJ doesn't sleep in our bed and we don't think it would be appropriate to let her. CJ is kenneled at night.

What advice do you have for getting her used to sleeping in her kennel for only a week?
