wolfstraum if she is starting her heat, then you MUST be very vigilant!!! This is when females will most likely fight with each other and once it starts, it sets their relationship on a rocky road! I would separate them and if they MUST be together, they should have lines on their collars and supervision...any **thought** of aggression or dominance should be promptly physically and verbally corrected....harsh verbal reprimands and a good tug even for a lifted lip, wrinkled nose or rolled eye glance!!!!! This WILL escalate to a full blown battle if it is not addressed right now.

Yes, check the rabies vaccine.....but in reality, this is more like due to heat.....If she has not been vaccinated, get her in to the vet immediately!

jocoyn You definitely need to verify because two shots a year apart are typically required then you move to every three years. If you don't have documentation for the first shot, the shot that you give will be considered the first shot and a second shot will need to follow a year later instead of three years.

KZoppa They're gorgeous.

Verify with your breeder that she's current on her rabies. That's a must by her age.

LilyandBella Thats what i think is going on. Im not sure about the rabies shot, but she's probably had hers already because she came from one of the best breeders in the state and we got her when she was 6 months old. I can understand about the hormones because Bella always wants to play. Oh and she was also dry heaving a bit. Tomorrow ill give her some rice and chicken broth to see if that helps any. Heres a pic of them (Lillys the black and tan, Bellas mostly black) Attachment 171994

KZoppa If she's current on her rabies vaccine and she JUST started her heat cycle, I imagine it's a case of hormones and two females in the house. Females get testy no matter the species. Cramps, body aches, headaches, etc. I know Shasta got pretty testy when she went into heat and she's the sweetest most mellow dog I've ever known.

mego did she get a rabies vaccine as a puppy? rabies usually isn't a concern if they were vaccinated..the behavior change is probably due to being in heat, especially with 2 females I could see the hormones causing tension

LilyandBella Grrr stupid send button.
Anyway she started sleeping more and hasnt been eating as much. Normally Lily and my other dog, Bella(1 1/2 yr old) will share out of the same bowl even though they each have there own but today when they were given some leftover chicken lily started growling at her. It happened again when she was laying next to me on my bed and bella walked in and was about to jump up on it too. She was drooling a little bit today which happened to bella too when she went into heat a few months back. My dad thinks she might have rabies but i dont think so. She's never been outside more then 5 minutes unsupervised, and even then Bella was with her and they will start barking up a storm if they see anything move. She's out in her kennel tonight just to be safe and we're also going to take her to the vet tomorrow or monday.
