gsdsar Work your dog in any venue she enjoys. If she starts to show signs, ease up. Many dogs live and work with mild/moderate dysplasia and never show signs.

You know your dog best. If she seems painful. Stop. Start her now on a Glucosamine supplement. Keep her lean and well muscled. Let her be your guide.

Shaina My female has moderate HD as diagnosed by xrays, not symptomatic. I still train her and let her play her heart out. I would rather allow to her be happy in the now and have to manage pain as she ages than limit her and live with a sad GSD that wants to work.

Edit: We've done schutzhund, agility, and flyball.

lhczth My first schutzhund was unilateral mild. She retired due to back issues and not her hip. She was SchH3. Helper I used to train with had a 10X SchH3 dog that was bilateral mild. He lived to be 14 and didn't show any issues until he was 12.

Msmaria My dog has unilateral hd. We do some of the agility but not to the class trainers and see if they can set up a routine for you. Not sure about schutzhund though. Maybe others can help

Schutzhund or Agility and Mild HD

If my dog has mild HD in one hip but is not showing any signs of discomfort would Schutzhund or Agility be a bad idea? I am assuming the running/jump would not be good for her. Should we just stick with the non-jumping Obedience? What about Rally is that bad?
