Neko According to my vet, no one knows why they happen.

Flea bite, allergy, diet, stress. Anything can can cause it and they happen very fast.

Vilonik Thank you guys but I read previous threads and it looks that everybody is discussing how to treat hot spots when they occurred while I'm more interested in hearing opinions about possible root causes and how to treat them. Maybe someone had similar experience and, for example, change in diet solved the issue, or something similar... I have my recipe hot to treat hot spots and it works not bad but it does not prevent from new hot spots

MadLab I find Neem oil very good for hot spots too.

I started using it on the dogs for flea prevention a year ago and note that my dog hasn't got any hot spots since I started using it.

He used to get plenty all summer long.

It is anti bacterial/fungal/viral, stops fleas/ mange and mosquitoes so will cover for hearth worm as well.

Blanketback Are you putting anything on them? I used this:
Vetericyn Hot Spot Spray 8 oz Liquid (pump)

I also feed the Orijen 6 fish, and my dog just got hot spots for the first time this fall. On another kibble last year he had really bad fall allergy symptoms, so maybe there's some link there too?

Hot Spot, please advise

Glad I have found this forum since I need an advice regarding hot spots. My boy is almost 9 years old and he always had hot spots (rear), once or twice a year, however this year (2013) he has one hot spot after another e.g. one hot spot healed another starts. Here are current pictures:

Hot spot on the right side is healed already but on the left side is new. So me and my vet decided to go with 4 weeks of antibiotics to see if we can stop hot spots but it doesn't seem working. I'm feeding him Orijen Six Fish for 7 years already, BTW.
I will be glad to hear any ideas how to prevent hot spots since I feel that I'm chasing the tail. Thank you in advance.
