We had a '95 with the 4 cylinder and a hard top. I could actually fit two 400 size crates in it with a platform. Of course my husband couldn't drive it when the crates were in there.
Anyhow, it was fun to drive, easy to get into 4WD as needed, but a bit scary in the wind in snow and on ice. The 4 cyl engine had no guts. Things started to fall apart on us by the time I traded it in, '99, for the truck I drive now. Little things like the window cranks (no power windows).
Yes, I would have someone go over the whole body thoroughly, take it in and out of 4WD, etc. If the Jeep has been in MO its whole life the body should still be in good condition, but always best to give any old vehicle a good going over.

|huntergreen||hey, butch, never owned a tj, but had a cj i bought used, a 74. drove that from calf to nj a few times durring my navy days. learned all about sunburn and wind burn on these adventures. don;t think i could do that anymore. now my jku i can drive for hours.|

I bought a 98 jeep wrangler in 98 brand new and am still driving it today. 4.0 6 cylinder sport. Ive replaced the soft top twice since I've had it but nothing major. My wife wants me to trade it in on a new one. Why would I do that I ask. They'll just give me one that looks like mine but it comes with a car payment. I haven't had a car payment in 11 years. I see no reason to start now.
I live in Minnesota so the 4x4 comes in handy. I highly recommend anyone buying a jeep.

|huntergreen||check the front end well, check to see if it had been lifted and that the axles are strait and centered. jeep forum has a tj section and could be very helpful to you.|

I agree with Lucy Dog that it needs to be checked over really well for rust. Do you know anyone who is Jeep savvy to go with you to look at it?
I can't say enough good about the inline 6 motor. We haven't had to do any engine work to mine so far. As a matter of fact, neither my transmission (5 spd) nor my clutch have had any work either!
Jeeps tend to hold their value, so you will probably pay more for a 1994 Wrangler than another make of car or truck of that same year. That said, I look at mine as a convertible in the summer and a four wheel drive in the winter. Doesn't get much better than that!
I suggest you sign up for the Jeep Wrangler forum, like I did. There are many very experienced people on there who can tell you exactly what things to look for on that particular year and whether or not the asking price is reasonable. And if you do sign up for the forum? Just make sure you never refer to it as a CAR, lol. You can call it a Jeep, rig, vehicle or truck. If you call it a car, you will get the same reaction as someone would on here calling their GSD a Shepard instead of a shepherd.

They're solid trucks and pretty easy to work on if things break down if you know jeeps, but you really need to be careful when picking out the right one.
This one is about 20 years old and depending on the previous people that owned the truck, tend to be driven pretty hard. A lot harder than your average car at least.
I wouldn't buy anything until I put that car on a lift and check all over for rust at the very least.
