Courtney_Chambers When I get another GSD I want to name him Hondo after a police dog. (My dad's a retired cop). My daughter named our current GSD Silas

Eiros Naming can be so hard! Pick something in line with the breeder's naming conventions of course, but in my opinion, pick something special and uncommon! I try and stay away from popular dog names but always wait until I meet the pup to decide I find that helps.

Good luck!

middleofnowhere Well, what naming convention does your breeder use? In my experience, each litter is assigned either a theme (more inclined in show dogs) or a letter (working dogs.)

If I don't especially like the formal name or variations of it, I tend to work on geography pertinent to the dog. If I get to choose the formal name and it needs to start with a specific letter, I pull out the dictionary and build a list from there. Then I use elimination.
