MaggieRoseLee Will she drag the leash around the house ok? or does that also freak her out?

Does it matter if she's wearing a harness or a collar with the leash?

If you sit on a bench with her on the leash, not moving, but just giving her treats occasionally... will she quiet and let the world go past?

She may need more exercise...not sure though what else you have going on. So whether it's overwhelming excitement on the walk? Or fearful aggressive type behavior is really hard to tell over a forum.

Have you been able to get a behaviorist or trainer to see the pair of you? Sometime having the right eye see the issue can help right away.

Not sure why you care if she's out front on a walk. My dogs always walk ahead of me and usually I have one dog that prefers to be the most ahead. It's fine with me as long as I'm not getting pulled along. Think of a sled dogs pack dragging the sled, you think the human in the sled is thinking all those dogs are the boss? Let me tell you those dogs know who ultimately is in charge.

Have you seen the Gentle Leader harness

Bless you for going to a rescue and taking this on.

David Taggart She is eager to let the vapour out. The best thing is to make a routine for her. Your case is classic just to prove for yourself that GSD needs hourly discipline. 1-2 hours chasing ball in the early morning, and 1-2 hours at early night hours. Make it hard for her, make her exhausted! She will start expecting energy release about these hours in a while. Use a harness instead of a collar, a new wear should make change to her pace, harness manipulates her torso not her head. Always have cheese in your poket, feed her treats on the way every 15 min, then her ball in your right hand, play the ball on the way, try to keep her eyes on yours as much as you can. Every time she draggs you forward - turn round and walk in opposite direction, she must learn to make circles around you instead of pulling you in different directions. She barks and whines because she is happy, impatient to express it, this fact isn't important at the present stage.

Gsd loses mind when on leash please help!

Hey there I am hoping someone out there can help me with my gsd crazy leash behavior. So here is a little background info. I adopted 1 yr old Zoey in August from my local humane society. She was was an owner surrender. The previous owner noted she had no leash training and spent at least 12 hours a day in her kennel or on a lead outside alone. Zoey has been a challenge but we have been making so much progress with her. She is so willing to learn, she now sits, stays, lays, rolls over and plays dead on command, no longer jumps the fence, and is completely house trained but whenever we got out for a walk she loses her mind. As soon as we start walking she is crying and making this terrible obnoxious noise i am not sure how to classify, and barking usually follows. This is all with and without others present. We now try and walk her at night so we do not see other people or dogs. She usually barks uncontrollably at others but is getting better and only barking at other dogs. For whatever reason she just gets so frustrated on the leash. Our other gsd 2 1/2 year old Zara who we have had since 11 months of age is nearly perfect on the leash besides minor tugging. I just do not know how to break Zoey. I hate not being able to take her everywhere because she loses her mind. We have tried positive reinforcement, discipline, and stopping and making her stop until she calms down. She especially freaks out if Zara or anyone else is walking in front of her. With sometimes have minor success walking her in front, but I do not want her to think she needs to lead always.
