Saphire I got mine free after playing with a litter of what turned out to be rabid puppies at local SPCA.
The staff tried to keep it quiet as the puppies were not done their quarantine period and people should not have had access to them yet..unknown to me.
I found out while watching the news 3 days later.

wyominggrandma Humans can get a vaccination, working for the vets, I had to have one. Then we did titars for the next 5 years before the vaccination again. Three small shots in the arm a few days apart. Not a big deal.
I also had to have rabies preventative years and years ago when I was bit in the face by a stray dog at the clinic. Back then the rabies test took lots longer than now, they started me on the shots, then finally the brain came back non rabid. Thank goodness, those HURT.

GatorBytes Rubbing his face on everything, probably nicked it on tree branch.

Gator nailed a baby skunk once, killed it, but got skunked over side face and one side of neck and chest and he was driving his face into the grass, like get this off of me! Thankfully not in the eyes.

MaggieRoseLee Chances are he didn't get close enough for a bite or he'd have smelt WAY worse. The way skunks protect themselves primarily isn't with their teeth!

Make sure his rabies are up to date though and clearly get off to the vet if you aren't sure...

JakodaCD OA I would check with your vet..While I don't like over vac'ing our animals, I once had a gsd who was bitten by a woodchuck, my vet suggested I revac the dog which I did

Skunk Bite?

Last night, I went outside with my dog, and he sort of disappeared into the shadows of my parents' place.

I heard him yelp, and called for him. When he came back, he was rubbing his head all over everything- the ground, trees, walls, whatever was close by.

When he approached me, he smelled….skunky. Not overwhelming like a dog that's been directly sprayed, but, maybe just a little? The odor has lingered throughout the day (We're taking care of that this evening!)

But also, I noticed that when he ran inside and rubbed up against the dishwasher, he left a small streak of blood there. I think he might have been bitten by a skunk?

Now, I can't actually see a bite, but I have a tendency to be paranoid.

I know skunks are very prone to carrying rabies, but Gabe was vaccinated for rabies in June of this year.

…Should I be worried?
