New member here.
I've been around GSDs almost my entire life. When I was a growing up, we lived on a farm and Dad raised and bred a number of Shepherds (as well as English Springer Spaniels). We also had a host of farm animals - and this had me well on my way with my love of animals from a young age. I learned very young how to both care for and train animals of all sorts.. but always loved the dogs the most.
As I get older (and grayer), I'm finding myself returning to my GSD roots. Finally stable, I jumped back into shepherds a bit over a year ago and got my girl Haddie.. she's about 18 months right now and is a beautiful bi-color.
In that period, I've had the luck to stumble on an absolutely excellent dog club here in South Jersey with some incredible trainers with both expertise and experience in spades. Where a year ago, I wasn't even 100% sure what I wanted to do with my dog beyond some basic obedience, I now find myself neck-deep in books and videos about training, the history of the breed, and just about anything else I can get my hands on and very much looking forward to my first SchH trials.
That first week at training with my club did it for me.. watching those dogs go from tracking to obedience to protection, watching them work with their handlers and the bond they had with them, absolutely convinced me that I was in the right place and headed in the right direction.
I'm glad for the advice and wisdom on these forums. Happy to be here.
