ScousePete Thank you. How long does the gravel stage last in your experience?

jocoyn They seem to outgrow the gravel but I have plenty of experience with pine needles and they break down rapidly and will create quite the mess in your gravel. Personally I would supervise her and just get her trough this stage.

Pine Straw (or similar mulch) + photo!

Hello -

We live in the desert and our backyard is gravel and stone. I was a little concerned that the stones would be too sharp for our new pup, Anka, to play on, but that has not been a concern. What is a concern is that I'm constantly pulling stones out of her mouth and I am worried about her damaging her teeth or worse, swallowing one.

A quick fix would be to cover the yard with a mulch such as pine straw. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is she going to start eating this instead? I have read that it isn't harmful to dogs, but I'd like to be sure.

All help would be most appreciated. Thanks!
