Momto2GSDs Sounds like he needs a Digestive Enzyme/Pro-Biotic to help him assimilate his food so that it can clam the gut and so that his system can absorb the nutrients. Here are 2 high quality products:
Sunday Sundae: Sunday Sundae Nutritional Supplement
Digest All Plus: The Wholistic Pet

A Non-Grain High Quality food may be what he needs. Add it slowly to the canned food the vet gave you, about 1 Tablespoon per meal for 2 days then increase a little more as you see fit.Add the canned (NO spices) Pumpkin as B&C suggested.
Fromms Beef Frittata: All Life Stages: Non Grain: Grain-Free Beef Frittata Veg dog food - Fromm Family Foods
Scroll down for other varieties: Four-Star Gourmet Recipes for dogs - Fromm Family Foods
Locate a store: Fromm USA Retailers

Hope he gets better!

tsaltamachia Actually, we kind of panicked and took him to the vet last night bc along with his diarrhea, he was also lethargic so we brought him in to rule out Parvo and they were able to rule that out thankfully, and they recommended we still have to bring him back to do further tests. We brought him back home and ever since he's been back to his normal happy self, but has still been having loose stools. So we just don't know what our next move should be, aside from taking him to the vet for further tests. They gave us liquid meds for the diarrhea that have helped some, along with a few cans of Hill's prescription diet i/d to feed him till his tummy feels main question is, should we give nutro a chance once he is done with the hill's prescription food? or switch him to something else altogether?

alexg The transition should be done very gradually over several days especially for the sensitive eaters. Boiled white rice added to the meal might help the diarrhea. A grain-free food usually a better option.

B&Cgetapup A spoonful of PLAIN pumpkin with a meal or few can sometimes firm up stools. If that doesn't do anything or the poo doesn't firm up over time it could be that Nutro doesn't agree with your pup's stomach. In that case a gradual switch to a new food may be in order.

Puppy food 911

We just bought a 8 week old German Shepherd who has been fed Purina Puppy Chow its' whole life so far. We noticed his stools were loose so we started him on Nutro Natural Choice Lamb & brown rice solid dog food because we were told the Purina had mostly corn in it and doesn't digest properly. However, his diarrhea has been worse since we started him on the Nutro. Is there any way to remedy this, or does anyone have suggestions for a different food that is easy on our puppy's digestive system? I know we switched kind of abruptly and we have since realized that wasn't the best idea, we just need a good dog food that we can slowly ween him on to, or a solution to make the nutro work somehow.
