rad10 Just to clarify, he was never on a full 5 cups... He was getting 2 1/4 twice a day - 4.5 cups. I reduced it down to 4 total, and held the same percentage of new food. He's only pooped once so far today and the foul gas seems to be gone. It seems like a rather abrupt change to me, so maybe it's a coincidence... or maybe that's all it was. I'll keep a close eye on him for the next few days before adding more of the new food though, I think.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys, it's awesome to have other brains to bounce things off of!

Shade I fed Delgado Fromm's LBP until he turned one and never went over 4.5 cups, anything more and it just went through him. Now I rotate through their 4 star grain free line and he goes between 3.5-4 cups depending on what we've done that day.

Try cutting him back 1/2 cup and see what happens.

huntergreen 5 cups may be perfect for her dog based on activety..

kiya 5 cups is a lot of food, I don't think I've ever fed what the bag recommends.

I haven't weighed him, but he doesn't look like he's losing weight.
The food bags are where he can't get to them, we don't feed him table scraps, the garbage has a lid, and the place is dog-proofed. He's goes in the crate when we leave, so he's never left unattended for longer than a minute or two, really. I can't think of anything he could be getting into.

That makes sense, I hand't considered different fiber sources/quality. I"ll try reducing the overall amount of his food and see how he does, maybe things will settle down. Thanks!
