carmspack nice ! give her a vocabularly -- place keys on floor -- doggy , pick it up, bring me the keys , good girl , (not throwing , not fetch or retrieval) , other objects - the newspaper - pick it up is your command, give the object a name , bring me the .... , good girl .

We did this kind of exercise and thrilled the Boy Scouts when asked to come out for Christmas party , entertainment.

My dog could pick up a raw egg and deliver it to hand . Then go up and pick up a glass coke bottle and deliver it . Turn around and without fail pick up the raw egg again without crunching too hard .
She could get shoes, the broom, a book , all by the objects name.
Later played with her and asked her to select balls by colour -- as long as the colours had big difference in tone -- .

looks like you can have lots of fun with this dog . Encourage , use this behaviour.

pedigree ?

Sansa's Mom I've been reading a lot about differences between dogs and wolves, and came across a few dog psychology studies. Pretty interesting stuff- one of them was about how wolves have difficulty understanding human gestures (like pointing at things) but dogs are able to do so even as small puppies. The wolves were better at problem solving but dogs were much better at communication with humans. They concluded that the dogs had evolved to rely on humans much more, and had given up some problem solving skills in exchange for higher social intelligence.

Ok that was pretty nerdy so I'll stop now . I can read these things all day LOL.
