I've had multiple males (one intact) with no issues, I think it more depends on personality vs gender. You don't want two pushy dogs.
My suggestion tho, something to ponder, if you get another close in age, your going to end up with two senior dogs that may pass close in time, been there done this TWICE, and right now I have two aussies that are 13 & 14, and I can see it happening again It's devasting enough to lose one, but when you lose two close in age, it really stinks
Another suggestion , if you DO get another dog, I would never leave them loose alone for some time until you know you can trust them together, you don't want to come home to a blood bath A crate is your best friend

There's probably a higher chance of success with male and female, however it depends on the dogs. If you are considering introducing a rescued adult from a GSD rescue organisation, make sure you are able to have a trial period with either sex to help you find the right dog. It is not beneficial for all involved if the dog you take on does not fit in.
PS good luck and I love having 2 dogs, it is a true joy to watch 2 dogs that have a close bond play and love each other.

Looking for a second and advice needed
I hope everyone is doing well!
I don't post often but do a lot of reading on here. To keep it short, I took in a fixed male GSD back in may, he's 3 years 4months now. He came to me underweight but healthy and has put on 20lbs and doing so well. I would not change a single thing about this dog. Everything is perfect and that's why I'm posting, I'm worried about ruining that.
I'm looking at getting a second. It might be from a breeder, shelter, an ad online etc. When the time is right and when I think I've come across the right dog I think I will know. My question is for all of you is should I be looking for another male or consider a female? I'm not looking for a puppy but 2-3 years range.
I a few details:
-Dogs are kept in the house when I'm not home
-I do not crate
-He get's about 3 hours of walking/running a day
I'm thinking of getting a second male but have no experience with two male dogs of any breed let alone a a GSD.
