MichaelE Crying at eight weeks is to be expected. Especially if she can see you. If you have to have her in there to do housework or other tasks, you can't take her out if she cries.

She will learn that to get her way all she has to do is turn on the tears.

She needs toys to occupy her mind and mouth if you can't play with her or be with her. If you are not busy during the day, she should be spending time with you bonding. Play, grooming, talking to her, and eventually teaching her tasks and obedience is all apart of bonding with your puppy.

She is naturally scared. She's just been taken away from her mom and her siblings and the world is a strange and scary place. She will get used to it, but you have to help her be at ease and comfort her when she is this young.

If you just toss her in the crate and go about your daily business you will never have a crate trained pup that will willingly enter her crate on command.

There's a lot more to it than what I've written, but we need to go for a walk right now. Someone else will be along to add to this.

***Beth*** THANK YOU~! GREAT links. I needed a bit of help with crating my puppy myself. Having the top off for awhile is a good idea that I'll need to try.

Crate Training?

How do you crate train a puppy? I have had puppies before but they all came crate trained, so I have never had to crate train a puppy before. My puppy is scared to death of the crate, he will not go in his crate and will whine and bark without stopping. The puppy has to sleep in its crate at night, but he won't quit whining and barking and will do it for hours without stopping. I have tried almost everything and the puppy will not stop! What should I do and how do I stop this behavior?
