Thank you for this. Gerda will probably go into her second heat in February, so maybe that's what we will do. From what I have read, it sounds like it's best to wait to spay after the second heat.

I discovered that he has anxiety issues in public places. I brought him to our vet for a general checkup and he was so anxious that she didn't even examine him to keep from stressing him further. I imagine the only experience he's had outside of the home was at the vet, so it's understandable. I've started bringing him to public places, very gradually. He rides great and loves to go for hikes with the other dogs. I'll start to introduce parking lots at stores, etc.

Here's a shot of the three dogs on a hike last week:

readaboutdogs Cody and Clipper were litter mates! One of my daughters had originally got Clipper and I had got Cody. When they were a little over a year old, probably about 14 months, she moved out of state and then Clipper came to his forever home with me! They were best buddies, truly loved each other! She did bring Clipper over all the time before she moved so they were used to seeing each other and playing together. He didn't really have any adjustment issues, at first did have to work on house breaking somewhat, she crated and I did not. But he learned quickly and they did fine loose in the house while I was at work! Gsds are so smart!
