This thread has a lot of good information about resource guarding:

Sounds like a good idea, while actually being a bad idea, and creating the very problem you are trying to avoid.
We had a thread recently about this. I'll see if I can find it for you...

agression only during feeding
my puppy (ziva) is just shy of 3 months old. absolutely birlliant puppy.
listens to all commands except her name, of course. lol
she will sit and stay with food in front of her until i command her to eat. she really is fantastic.
but when feeding her a bone. i will do the same thing. she will sit and stay and wait patiently for my command.
But when trying to take the bone off of her, snarling growling, baring teeth and biting happens. I need to stop this and i do not know how.
I have tried today for about 20 minutes, giving her the bone, she waits for the eat command and starts eating. 30 secs into it i move in slowly to take the bone away, as i get close she starts to growl. When i get withing grabbing distance of the bone she bites me. not nip, bite, aggresively.
i get the bone off of her after grabbing her by the collar and pulling it out of her mouth. tell her to sit and stay, and i move it close without giving a command. she listens patiently until it is on her feet.
i do this to show that i have control over her food. I then give her the bone again and repeat getting it off of her. this attempt was not successfull so now she is leashed up outside, and i brought the bone inside.
any assistance would be greatly appreciated. as i do not want her to be aggresive at all. esspecially towards me as that shows i am not the boss.
