A great diet to get diarrhea under control is "equal amounts" of boneless, skinless boiled chicken breast and canned pumpkin (NO spices or additives), fed 3 or 4 times daily in small amounts.
I'd nix the Science Diet and get a good digestive enzyme and probiotic to help with his loose stools. This id kibble contains corn, chicken BY-Products (which can include the intestines PLUS the stool in it!) and the 7th ingredient is powered cellulose which is wood pulp!
Sounds like he is not assimilating his food properly if he is going after poop! One of the below products added to his food will help this.
Great products with quality ingredients to try:
*Sunday Sundae: Carmspack Working German Shepherds, Feed-Sentials
*Digest All PLUS: The Wholistic Pet
Hope this helps!

2nd bout of diarrhea in a week
My GS got diarrhea last Sunday night, watery and no control. I put in him the garage and the next day, I could tell he had been pretty sick (no throwing up, only lot of diarrhea.).
A couple of days earlier, I caught him trying to gobble up some poop of sorts, coyote is my guess but I made him drop it. My guess is that he still swallowed some and got sick.
So I put him on as 24h fast with only rice water and a little broth. Then 2 days of rice/pumpkin/shredded chicken, then reintroduced his kibble gradually. He did fine, and as of 8 a.m., his poop report was perfect (it had been for the past 2 or 3 days now). BTW, he is on 1/2 Taste of the Wild Salmon, 1/2 Science Diet I/D as he tends to get easily diarrhea, and that mix has worked well for him.
However, 45 mn ago he had to go out quickly and there we go again! This time, not as watery; I took him for a walk at once, and he strained a few times, got some results twice. It doesn't seem to be as bad, yet I'm concerned. I can't take him to the vet today, as it's Saturday, but will Monday.
In the meantime, I'm wondering if I should get him back on a 24h fast again, or if I can give him rice/pumpkin only in small amounts, no chicken. Thanks for any advice.
