Trip to North Dakota in January - Prepare my GSD?
I feel as if I'm always testing the weather limit of my poor GSD. A short time ago we went to Vegas and experienced 120F weather together, but he did great as long as we went indoors ever hour to two max and hydrated ourselves/took a break. Now? I'm going to visit a buddy of mine in North Dakota and possibly experience -20F or less weather. I've seen a couple threads about what is "too cold" for a GSD, but most of those focus on long term outside living space. That's not something I do with my dog (he stays indoors) but we do enjoy hiking together.
In preparation for weather that is that cold, is there anything I should get for him to be comfortable on a long hike? Perhaps a jacket and some dog booties? Maybe something for his head? I've never really looked into it, nor do I know if it's necessary. In the movies you always see GSDs in the cold mountains with just their coat and doing fine. Advice appreciated!
