|Sookie||I love rescue stories, my 9 month pup is also a rescue - and she is nuts about snapping at flies, butterflies, moths - I thought this was just her because none of my other dogs have done it, but I guess not. Would love to see some pics when you get a chance|

Welcome to the forum.
What a wonderful thing you did taking her in and giving her a good home. My 8 month old is pretty laid back, but even he cant pass up a chance to chase flies, spiders, bugs etc. He even got stung in the mouth after catching a wasp. Did it stop him from trying to catch more flies, no..lol.
What worked for or me to loose leash walking was lots of treats and praise when walking beside me, and if my dog pulled on leash I would stop. The minute the dog backs up and loosens the leash praise and continue. The first few times it may tame a long time to get anywhere lol. But now my dog knows anytime I stop that he has to come back to a heel position or loosen up the leash, no pulling.
It sounds like your doing a great job with your new puppy. Keep up on the obedience.

|Nigel||Congratulations! Glad you are giving her a proper home. The bug and butterfly chasing is normal, even for a well kept gsd, mine love chasing anything that flys by. Loose leash walking will take a little time, you may want to look into different training collars to help with this. With other dogs in the house, I'd would monitor all interactions and keep her crated or kenneled when she can't be supervised, gsds can play rough.|

Hi :) New member(s) me and my shepherd 7 months *rescue* a couple questions?? :)
Hi I just wanted to say 'hey' and I probably will be checking out a lot of info. on here and asking bunches of questions probably. A little over a month ago, we were out for a drive in the country and ended up at this old farm place - we had saw they had their shepherd puppy for sale on the internet - and anyway, we were up that way and this 6 month old Shepherd was tied to a dog house, no water, on a big old sand dune. She was all boney and ribs. Well, needless to say, we took her and she has put on weight and LOVES to walk. I swear she has husky in her. I take her sometimes 4 times a day! (I'm currently not working so I have the time)...but any how, she has a lot of vices - none of which can't be fixed though - God willing! I plan to take her to some obedience classes in a couple weeks. She PULLS a lot when walking. She developed this nasty habit of 'chasing' butterflies and bugs from being neglected prior to us. I'd really like some advice on how to 'break' this as she has dragged me down on a couple occasions. Also, I am thinking about running with her, because she just has SO much energy that it makes it difficult to keep around our other dogs (dachshunds). She likes to pounce on them...Suggestions? Thanks so much and hope to hear from some professionals on here.
