He's not been active as he was with you. You sorta tossed him back into a pretty tough regimen all at once. I bet he's building a bit of lactic acid up in the muscles and his body is wanting to flush that, hence the big drinking binges.
Weight....fat weighs a good bit less than muscle. If he's been more sedentary than when with you he might have just switched over to a bit more fat on the frame than muscle.
Just tossing that out, I always look for the silver linings.

Definitely check out diabetes as weight loss and extreme thirst are human symptoms. good to see you back as I said in your other thread>

|wyoung2153||Thank you guys for the responses.. it is REALLY great to be back. Titan still seems as peppy as ever, just can't hang like he used to, lol. I will keep in mind the diabetes and keep an eye on the drinking if it keeps happening, I will call the vet. Also, any idea why the appetite change? he seems to only want to eat at night. Is there anything wrong with feeding him once at night? If I feed once a day I am used to feeding mornings. I am assuming night time wouldn't be much different but just wanted to check.|

|pyratemom||Welcome back and thank you for serving. As for your dog I would say he is out of shape and needs to work back into it. Did the vet do a blood test when you were there? They should be able to rule out diabetes with that. I know that is one cause for excess water drinking. I hope every thing works out okay. I'll be keeping my paws crossed for your baby.|

whitney, first I'm glad you came back safe
I'd say he's out of shape as well, The water drinking? Well first thing that popped into my head was diabetes..?? Or maybe because he is out of shape, gets tired so easily it makes him thirsty?
Just throwing that out there, hope he is back in shape soon

I'd say he's just out of shape as well. If a person stops running for basically 7 months, you can't just start again and without building your mileage back up. I think the same goes for dogs.
With the water, maybe he's just more thirsty due to the increase in exercise now?

Yeah when I picked this friend to watch him it was because she was super active and said she would keep him up with his running. Come to find out, she only ran/walked him, maybe on the weekends. And I don't know why he lost the weight. he's always been fluctuating between 93 and 97 and he's at 83 right now. He is going to get weighed again today, he has a check up on his paw and a cyst like thing I found on his neck.
Just really weird. At first I was trying to decide if he just needed to get back in the swing of things.. get used to the new surroundings again but it's been over 2 weeks now. He's got the routine down, but just isn't the same.

He's probably just totally out of shape. Did you weigh him before and after you went? The cut pad is proof he doesn't get enough exercise.
The drinking the water is funny. Maybe he is too hot due to the excess weight. Cut down on the food and try to increase the exercise slowly.
Edit, I just see you brought him to the vet and he lost weight, that is strange.

Back from deployment.. a few concerns..Text Heavy
I just got back from a 7 month Deployment 2 weeks ago. Since I have been back, Titan has been fussy about eating in the mornings so we switched to night time feedings only. So far so good on that one. Then he punctured his pad on his left front paw the beginning of last week, it got infected and I took him to the vets with a 104 fever. He is on his last few days of antibiotics and it's healing well. Since I got him back, he has been completely out of shape. I used to run him twice, morning and night, 2 miles each and he can barely make it the first mile without me dragging him. I have since switched to running a half mile and walking the rest. He also was insanely ball driven before I left.. he would play fetch for hours if I let him. No stop button. He now will only play for about 5 minutes before he has to lay down and take a break. I took him for a check up when I got back, just because and he lost about 7-10 lbs as well btu is otherwise healthy.
Behavior wise he seems to be normal. has the same desire to play ALL THE TIME only he gets tired quicker, lol. He knows all his commands still. He has become a little more lovey but I assume he's just getting older. (almost 4 now) I could be wrong though. He still seems enthusiastic about everything, except eating, which he's always been that way, and he did phenomenal at Search and Rescue this weekend, which was our first day back.
Now we come to the most recent concern.. Excessive drinking because it was something I noticed this last night. Titan NEVER wakes me up in the middle of the night unless it's a potty emergency. So he did last night. Only, when we went out to the living room he booked it to his water and just wouldn't stop drinking. He drank almost his entire bowl and then when I took him outside to potty, just in case, he started to drink from his bowl outside. I told him to go potty and he did, but when we came right back in the house he went to his second water bowl and started drinking more. I filled his other bowl up and he went back to that one and continued drinking. I had to call him away from his bowl to go back to sleep.
This morning it was the same thing. We woke up and he went straight to his bowl and drank the whole thing. I refilled it and he drank about half. I have never seen him like this so it concerned me.
Any insight on anything I am concerned about?? Just thought I would see what you all had to say before I started getting really concerned. Thanks in advance.
