That's what my Howie does whenever the grass is wet, He'll get a running start and dive into the grass.

|Traveler's Mom||For my boy, it's still a big deal. I don't hold an umbrella but if he can't hold it any more he'll run out and pee under the palm using the fronds as his personal umbrella. He hates getting wet from the rain but he'll lay in his kiddie pool half the day. Go figure!|

|JanaeUlva||If you make them stay out in the rain until they potty then immediately take them back in they figure out pretty quick that the way out of the rain is to potty|

|MichaelE||That's good news. They catch on quickly as long as you remain in control.|

|cdlamb43||Just an update... sasha is now going potty when I take her out. She goes almost immediately and I'm thinking she is starting to understand where she is supposed to go|

I disagree in this case. The puppy is not going potty because it's afraid of the rain. This puppy will go potty either during or after playtime if it's raining. Best way to get my boy to poop when he was a puppy was to throw his ball a couple times....would poop immediately. He was housebroken in 10 days like every other dog I have owned.
If this puppy continues to be pampered when it has to go outside when raining, it may end up always having issues with being outside in the rain.

i had this same problem with luna i took her for a walk in the rain then we went outside and both stood in the rain....when she tried to shelter behind me i walked round the yard after half an hour of whining, crying and downright hysterics she got the message and went potty....not had a problem since :-)

Rain or shine, potty time is not playtime. The two should be kept separate.
You don't have to make it as though you're walking your puppy to the gallows, but he must be made to understand why he's out there.
Playtime can come later. He will get used to the rain. And so will you.
