|pyratemom||It's really too bad we can't speak dog so they could just tell us why that thing is suddenly scary. When Raina was younger I believe she thought I was battling with the vacuum because she would bark at it when I was using it but didn't care if it stood still. Now at 5 years old she understands it's just a thing humans do sometimes and doesn't care anymore.|

Yeah it's been sitting out for weeks now, so I don't get it!
she doesn't hate it with violence or anything, but suddenly is scared to go near it.
Maybe I'll put it in the middle of my living room with the cord out on the floor, so she can walk over it and round it.

My dog was the same way. I was able to use the vacuum as a brush to suck the clumps of hair off of him during the heavy shedding seasons, but one day he suddenly hated the vacuum. It was like a switch turned off in his head. Every time I got the vacuum out of the closet he would either run and hide or he would try to bite it.
I tried the same thing Pyratemom suggested but it didn't work. (maybe I gave up to early). Now I just put the dogs in the yard every time I have to vacuum. Good Luck.

|pyratemom||I would just leave it sitting out for awhile and she how she acts after a couple days. Just leave it in the corner of the room and go about your life normally. Play with her in the same room but ignore the vacuum. Maybe it's just a passing thing.|

Dog suddenly afraid of vacuum, they used to be friends?
I'm not sure what happened, but my dog (almost a year and a half old) is suddenly very worried about the vacuum, I noticed it after it was shut off and I was wrapping the cord up. It's while it's shut off, so I don't understand what is bothering her about it.
She used to bring it her toys while I was vacuuming , so this is kind of unusual behaviour for her.
Also, I have had it parked in the corner of my living room for a few weeks while she was blowing her coat (vacuumed almost daily), so she's quite used to it being around. I can't imagine she's had a bad experience with it.
Has something like this happened to anyone before? Isn't she a little old for having a fear stage? Do you think she'll get over her fear as fast as it came? I'm not sure what's up and I'm trying not to make it a big deal so she will hopefully forget to worry about it.
How can I get her more comfortable with it? I tried sitting by it and offering treats, but I was hard pressed to get her within 3' of it. It was a little better rolling her ball by it, but you could tell she was trying to find a way to snatch her ball away while keeping as much distance as possible.
I don't know why this started, she used to follow it around to see if it was trying to steal her toys before?? It's not the sound that's bothering her, but the vacuum itself.
