I didn't want a LC, but that's what I ended up with. Personally, while I get irritated at people insisting he must not be purebred, I find his upkeep easy. I know people say that the reason he doesn't shed is because the hair stays trapped, but I have taken him for 3 baths this summer and there was barely any hair (comparatively speaking) in the tub, even after blowing him dry. WAY WAY WAY less than any other dog I've owned. I find him to be no different in terms of dirt and bark than any other dog, too.
I agree it is not as easy to see his muscle and size, unless he's wet.
He does frizz out in humid weather, though. Just like his owner!

I personally like the stock coat; when I picture a GSD, I picture a dog with a shorter, smoother coat. But that doesn't mean I don't necessarily LIKE plush coated dogs, it's just not my preference. I don't think they're NOT German Shepherds, just a different variety.
I've never owned a plush coated GSD, and don't intend to, but know people who do and they really like the fluffier look. For me, it'd be too much work keeping it burr free on the farm.
Like others have said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It's all about what personally strikes your fancy.

|1sttimeforgsd||I think the LC are gorgeous, the only drawback to owning one that I could imagine would be in the case of diarrhea. I have a long haired cat and it can be pretty bad.|

I adore my long coat. Granted, she isn't super long, but she is unique looking and very cute, and she comes with some serious working ability too. Brains and beauty!

|mandiah89||I personally do not like the look of LC or coaties, its not how I picture a GSD... Granted if kept well groomed they look nice but I will only ever own stock coats.|

|asja||My first German Shepherd was a LC, and she came with the name Asja ("ahs-ya"). She was a great dog, and lived to 13.5.|

In my Air Force days my MWD was a long coat male named ARCO, one of the best dogs I've ever had all the way around.

|LARHAGE||I love long coats and honestly don't find them any more trouble than a thicker stock coat, I finally got one when the SV admitted them to show, it's about time!! They are genetically the same as their litter mates, I plan to show my female next year, she gets so many compliments when I take her out with her red and black silky coat , she's gorgeous to me, as far as dragging in dirt and shavings from the barn what I do for her and my Cairns is once or twice a week spray them with Show Sheen and massage it into their coats , it keeps it soft and dirt and debris easily brush out.|
