|cborso22||Puppy update: Vader had his surgery yesterday and it went really well! They scoped both shoulders, but only ended up treating the right. The left had no indication of OCD. Right had a lesion 1.5cms, but they cut out the flap and smoothed the bone.. He is all shaved both shoulders, down the legs and one back leg and quite out of it (on lots of meds), but is settling in at home. Now starts our road to recovery|

Just a quick update about our trip to the ortho specialists. We got some really good xrays which do indicate OCD in the right shoulder and slight OCD in the left. We'll be having surgery in about two weeks (vet said the sooner the better) with about a 8-12 week recovery time estimate.
Good news is his hips and elbows look good, so that is one less worry!
Thanks for everyone's input, will update this periodically with his progress.

|JakodaCD OA||I'm so sorry to hear Ortho surgeons know their stuff tho, and while it may be a rocky road, the end result will be worth it..Hang in there, please keep us updated with her progress..hugs to you all|

|cborso22||Well, ortho vet diagnosed with OCD in right shoulder, and possibly in left. Advised bilateral arthroscopic surgery. Also suggested taking additional elbow/hip xrays. We have an apt Sat with VOSM, to see what the next step will be.|

Mine were done for OFA readings..so yours , as you said could have been done trying to get a bigger picture..I know cloudiness in some xrays can also indicate pano,,(growing pains)..
I would take the ortho vets opinion, they can read xrays much better than a vet usually as that is their specialty..If the ortho says xxx , I would rely on that and wouldn't bother with a second opinion..
Hope it's "nothing"..

|cborso22||Jakoda, I feel like your xrays give such a better perspective..I'm not sure if this is because they were trying to fit the shoulder and elbows in, or if it is the quality of the machine. But again, I know nothing about xrays!|

The vet is supposed to call back tomorrow with the ortho vet's opinion. So I will have to wait a little while longer. If they come back saying there is reason for concern, I am going to take him to another vet for a second opinion. Just to be on the safe side since I have no idea what to look for in xrays, and have been reading some pretty scary things about OCD/surgery/misdiagnosis. I just keep getting so far ahead of myself.
The vet had mentioned there seemed to be cloudiness above one elbow..but I don't know what this means. Is the cloudiness the OCD indicator? Because what she was concerned about was a shadow spot on his shoulder. I was reading on a different thread about pano, and someone said the darker spots on the bone were the pano indicators, but then found different information that made it seem like cloudiness in bone indicates osteosarcoma.
