|WVGSD||I rescued one senior female GSD that had a "shriveled up" ear tip like you mention and we suspected that she had a hematoma on her ear at one point during her life. Once that cartilage is broken, it may not be possible to get the ear to stand up again. It just depends upon how long ago the hematoma occurred. With my senior girl, the ear tip never stood back up again.|

if he has a hematoma, it can easily be drained off by the vet , however, it may not allow his ear to stand up..depends on how long he's had it, how severe it is, etc..Sometimes hematomas will come back and require surgery to get rid of it for good.
Hematoma's are basically a pocket filled with fluid, can be from an injury, maybe he scratched himself..etc..

Is there something wrong with it or is it just floppy? I can't really tell from the picture.
If it's just floppy, there's probably not a way to make it stand at this point. I thought one of Mia's ears was going to stay like that, and I was actually kind of disappointed when it finally came up. I say enjoy it and be happy that you're helping out the pup. He looks very handsome.

|Nigel||Welcome! I hope your home inspection goes well and you are able to adopt him. The ear is probably gonna stay that way. I don't think tape, forms, or any of the other tricks will work with a pup that age, I could be wrong though.|

Shelter Dog Rescue
hey guys! im new to the forums. everytime i googled something about GSD i was always redirected here. Ok, so I went to my local shelter to see if i find a dog and i found a beautiful GSD male. He was an owner give bc the spouse had passed. He is REALLY malnourished. And top top it off, his left ear is kinda shribbled looking. The vet had mentioned something about, it was due to a hematoma. I feel really bad for the dog. He is 1 1\2 old. Im still awaiting house check approval. First is to get him healthy! I accept him for who he is, but it doesn't hurt to try to correct his ear. any advice on fixing it? I have a photo i took at the shelter. Its the best i could do bc he was really excited. I would really like to know what works and home remedies ppl have tried. thanks in advance guys!
