We got her at 5 months and the person we got her back did not get back to us on what shots she had received. Therefore the vet went ahead and administered all shots. The ones she just received on 8/10 were DHLPP#4, Bordetella, and Canine Influenza Adult. Rabies was given on 7/13. I'm not sure about having a false negative on the Parvo test.
They did an x-ray and found no blockage. Now they're thinking it might be whipworm. I am just frustrated and want an answer if I'm paying for all these tests.

|Jax08||Exactly what shots did she get at 7 months? Her last set of puppy shots? Or a rabies vaccine? is it possible to have a false negative on a Parvo test?|

I am so sorry your going through all of this, it must be very scary for you and for her. I hope the vets can figure out whats wrong with her and treat your pup accordingly.
Try to keep us updated!

|Mags118||The vet called around 7:30 pm and said they would be doing an X-ray. My husband and I had pushed for an X-ray before but the vet kind of blew us off and insisted the blood tests first. I thought it might be some kind of intestinal blockage but I'm no vet. Hopefully we will get a definite answer tomorrow.|

Did they xray? My female was almost dead a few months ago, started with black tarry stools, blood , won't go into detail it was 'bad'..anyhow, the end conclusion was she ate 'something', such as infected dirt (she's a dirt eater), drank standing water with some type of bacteria in it. After the GI was straightened out, whatever it was, traveled thru her bloodstream to her lungs, lung pockets were 'black', couldn't breath, did a fungal, that was negative..
We pulled her thru it but don't really know a 'cause'..Only conclusion, this was spring when all the 'stuff' in dirt/water is coming alive, and some type of nasty bacteria..

|Mags118||Took her to an emergency vet clinic today, they did some blood tests and put her on an IV but they still don't know what is wrong. She will have to stay overnight while they monitor her. They thought she might have Parvo but she tested negative. This vet thinks it could be stress, ulcers, or EPI.|

ah boy , so much going on this pretty well got lost ,
"Maggie had an appt Saturday with the vet so my husband picked her up Friday from the trainer. In the last 24 hours we have had her back with us, she has not been herself. She is sleeping a lot more, not eating, and has lost a couple of pounds. She is currently 42 lbs at 7 months. You can see her ribs quite easily. She has had tarry, black looking loose stools and is popping frequently, at least every 3 hours. Just under an hour ago, she threw up clear fluid for the first time.
When at the vet on Saturday (8/10/13), they did a fecal test on the stool sample brought in and had no signs of parasites. She received her last set of shots today "
okay , anyone know better than me , unless the dog has been eating tons of liver or organ meat would you think that black tarry stools are an indication of internal bleeding.
not to alarm you, just brainstorming
if the pup got the last set of shots at the same appointment for your pup being examined for weight loss, black tarry stools, lethargy , vomiting and frequent bowel movements, then that is ---- so wrong -- makes me angry --
now over to some others to comment
get her over to another vet -- get an x ray

|Mags118||The trainer did not mention about her ingesting anything she shouldn't have. We will be calling him today to see if he knows of anything. All the vet did was a fecal test for parasites. The vet gave Maggie Metronidazole.|

Is it possible she ingested something while at the trainer's? What other tests did the vet do? It could be a lot of things, including giardia or SIBO or EPI. Whatever it is, she needs some help immediately, especially if she is lethargic.
Unless she had just had a drink of water, the clear liquid was probably bile. Her stomach is empty and she's probably feeling very nauseous.
I would be concerned too and would take her back to the vet. And the vet should not have given her vaccination when she was ill. That puts more stress on her immune system.
Can you take her to the e-vet tomorrow? Did the vet give you anything for the diarhea?

|llombardo||24 pounds in two weeks? That sounds like a lot. And she lost weight? Something isn't right. Stress can be bad for a dog,but if she was stressed I doubt she would have eaten, much less all of that food. I would go to see another vet if she doesn't show signs of improvement soon.|
