Amazon is kind of local--to me-- I live in Seattle.
I support small business. I purchase my dog food at a small franchise where they do special orders. I prefer to buy American made goods but it is difficult to find reasonably priced clothing and shoes. I love my local independent bookstore but Amazon can deliver some stuff to my door in less than 24 hours. I can even buy groceries there which has been very nice during my husband's illness.
To me, it's about compromise and information. I prefer to shop at Costco because they treat their employees well but I won't buy a lot of the clothes that they carry because they are manufactured overseas. I read labels when I pick up an impulse item and sometimes that makes the decision to put the pretty thing down easier.
I avoid any "Made in China'" dog treats. I'm probably better about their diet than my own.

I never buy meat at grocery stores. We support local farmers and go in with friend or relative on a pig or cow. We just got 300# of pork tonight. Most of the grocery stores get their meat in prepackaged from the big processors/CAFO farmed.
Seldom do they have their own dept that actually cuts meat.

|3dognite||Oh yeah, my groceries...I try to buy as much local there as possible. I buy 1/2 a beef at a time, chickens/turkeys from the local hutterite colony etc. Food is much better local if you can get it.|

I'll buy local if the price is right and the availability is good. And customer service too.
I live in podunk and a lot of chain stores aren't local here. I'll buy at the mom and pop places if they measure up. But I'm not hung up on the idea if it doesn't work out for me.

When I was about 7 or 8 Meijer use to have their carts numbered. They were doing some promo's when we were shopping, and if they called your cart # you won something. I won a purple and white Huffy stingray! The only time I've ever won anything(besides raffles)
