brembo Myrtle Beach is sorta redneck, party oriented. Sunset, Pawleys, Georgetown are more laid back restful places. Pawleys in particular is super lazy, great to unwind and slip into a semi-coma.

DHau I have wanted to go here as well because of the history. There are so many places I want to go. Now that the kids are grown up, I can plan on a lot more traveling. I would love to see any pictures you care to share.

If you go back a row or 2 of houses, they will be even cheaper but still a very short walk. There were very few people on our beach the entire week. We basically had a big section all to ourselves. The mal only ran off once after some guys playing football (and stole the ball), they were probably 50-60 feet away from us, so that was pretty good for the week
I have pictures showing our beach and how un-crowded it was if you are interested in going there. Lots of seafood restaurants. We had a good time driving right on the less developed beach of corolla too, which is where they have wild horses. Very few people out there and even cheaper rental houses, but you need a 4-wheel drive.

arycrest Have you thought about Jekyll Island (or St. Simons Island, there may be others) ... it's in your neck of the woods. I've been to Jekyll Island a few times, haven't been there in a while but it was dog friendly last time I was up that way.

DHau Maybe one day I will make it down there. It would be over 6 hours to drive. Longer with a trailer.

arycrest Yeah ... there are ton of seashell down there. Maybe I've been lucky ... no cut pads ... but my guys are walked on lead ... have seen people letting their dogs run and play ball or frisbee, run at large and haven't heard of cut pads but who knows??? Anyway, I love it down there.

DHau I have always wanted to go to Sanibel Island, but wonder if with all the shells on the beach, they would cut doggy paws.

If you want a dog friendly place in Florida and you don't mind the Gulf coast, my favorite Florida beach is Sanibel Island down by Ft. Myers. This place is dog friendly, right on the beach just steps from the cottages ... there is a charge for dogs and unless it's changed, a maximum of two dogs per cottage.

Mitchell's SandCastles Sanibel Island Vacation Destination

I "think" this is the cottage we stayed in: http://www.mitchellssandcastles.com/vrnumber3.cfm

DHau Well, we live in middle GA and SC is a 4-5 hour drive as it is. I would love to go to some place closer, but I have found that the majority of beaches here in GA and FL do not allow dogs. I have learned the state parks in SC are more flexible. when it comes to pets.

Tosca is crate trained at home, but we have never put her in one while camping. There was never a need because we took her everywhere and we usually stayed at the campsite.

Another reason for considering a rental is that we have parrots and may take them with us. They, too, make noise whenever strangers pass their territory. am afraid of being evicted either from having a barking dog or loud birds. The possibility of A/C going out in the trailer is another concern even though our trailer is practically new, but you never know.

Comparing prices of a vacation rental versus our travel trailer is a no brainer. lol. I also got to thinking that pet friendly houses may have fleas from previous guests.
