LoveEcho I was lucky enough to get to spend quite a bit of time with my female before I brought her home. She was definitely starting to show food drive early on. She also comes from lines that have a tendency to be very drivey very early and her siblings were all very similar. She was a really intense little puppy (and is now a really intense 9-month-old).

sarahp The day i brought Atticus home at 8 weeks, he was up and chasing a Kong soft squeaky toy and bringing it back to us to throw it again. That was within an hour of being home. As he grows up, he's definitely grown into a high prey drive almost 4 month old. if something is moving, he is after it no matter what it is. that probably started as a 12 week old. when the wind would blow and leaves would skitter across the driveway he was chasing them.
I'm sure it all depends on the puppy, but it started showing up very early for Atti.

lhczth Depends a lot on the bloodlines. Some dogs show their inherent drives very early. Some show then later. This is where the breeder becomes important and their knowledge of their lines. They should be your best source of information.

Certain things I expect to see early on. Food drive, hunt drive being two that I expect to see at 7-8 weeks.

MichaelE I would think every dog is different.

Lisl was chasing and retrieving a ball at 12 weeks. At that age she didn't always want to bring it back, but her prey drive made her go after it.
