alexg All my experience with TH was in Canada and did not know there are any in the US. IMO the TH is a very mediocre copy of the DD. I don't eat at the BK or similar joints so I guess this merge does not make any difference for me.

The coffee tastes slightly different in each local region of TH's because they only use locally roasted beans. Pretty sure there is a big plant in Rochester that does this region's.
Hey Caja's Mom, i grew up in Buffalo. Haven't been back in years. It is a nice place to live despite what the weather forecasters will have you believe. It is too bad that the economy is so bad there. I left after high school (to go to college) and never came back. At the time there were no jobs in Buffalo.

Rangers_mom Hmmm, so sorry to hear about the current quality of TH. Now that I think of it I haven't been to Canada in about 4 years and the last time we were there we did not go to TH much. (We last went to Quebec City and the baked goods and coffee there are so good we wouldn't go to TH. Also had our first experience with a screaming Quebecer who was furious with us for speaking English. Interesting experience.) it always makes me sad when the quality of a product goes downhill especially when the product used to be good.

arycrest I've never been much of a BK fan ... I usually go to Wendy's for their salads.

I've only been to Canada two or three times, sadly I've never visited a Tim Horton. BUT if BK opens a Tim Horton down here I'd love to try them ... have heard so much good about them (unless BK screws them up).

Gwenhwyfair This. I've never been to a Tim Hortons but BK is not going to improve anything for sure.

My sister used to work for a large multiple restaurant chain owning company. They would buy out decent little chains, keep the quality high at first. As time went on they would start cutting corners, inentionally in stages, until the complaints became high enough they had reached the point of diminishing returns vs cheap ingredients. It was closely tracked and managed the degredation of quality. The best places are the locally owned cafés, mom and pop diners that with a little searching can be found.

And the quality of food in general is going down that we buy in the store. For instance the amount of water allowed in butter. Cook with say land O lakes butter vs a good imported European butter and you will be amazed at the difference.

ozzymama I'm not a Tim Hortons fan, my husband is and so when I'm with him, that's where we will grab coffee. I honestly doubt they (Burger King) can make it any worse. I usually grab gas station coffee, I'm not fancy about the coffee I drink, black, lots of caffeine... But Tim Hortos I always take milk in because it tastes burned.
I just hope they continue to support the Timbits kids sports programs and the camps. Plus the free ice skating days at local rinks, I know their charitable side does a lot for the communities and when you figure, up here, there's one on every corner, it's good for everyone.

jrennie15 As a Canadian who used to love TH donuts and their food in general, I don't think BK could make it any worse than it has turned over the last few years. The donuts are no longer fresh, they are frozen and reheated. Their food has gone way downhill the last few years. So if the food is already bad, well, it's pretty hard to screw up coffee so I doubt this merge will change anything.
