|middleofnowhere||Thanks for the photos. They're real cuties. I'm glad you got them and I'm glad their vet report came back good.|

We saw the vet today...both pups are healthy and have doubled their weight since we got them last week.
They are tick free, and were wormed.
She thinks they are not 100% GSD, but more likely a mix, which is fine with us
We follow up in 2 weeks for a second round of dewormer and then later for shots.
She said they look very good (repeatedly, which makes us wonder what poor pups they see) and to keep doing what we are doing!

Thank you all!
We are seeing the vet this afternoon for a checkup and worming.
The are sleeping on the couch with my 2 year old, totally content :-)

|Moriah||Just go forward into the future and change what you can--the situation with the pups in front of you. Only do what is comfortable for you--you are making a difference trust your instincts.|

I don't want to offend anyone, so please don't jump on me about this.
The owner is an elderly mexican man that does not speak any english. He is a friends neighbor. The pups were kept in a pen next to goats and chickens. The yard was littered with dead fridges and garbage. It was awful. Gave me the willies to get out of the car.
I think there is some 'old school' mentality of how animals should be treated in his case.
The dad dog was running loose, with no collar--which tells me no tags. He was friendly and gentle, and never made any attempt to growl or bark at us, so he may have been worked with somewhat.
I am afraid to call AC because they will know where the call came from. KWIM?
I don't know what the plan was as far as having puppies--I think with the plan to sell, though but it backfired when mom died.
They are happy and thriving now--and see the vet this afternoon!

And they could also be mixed with something else. I would worry less about their size and more about their overall health. I agree that proceeding cautiously with dewormer is wise.
Good luck with them -- glad they have a good home now!

He could be flat out lying to you too. Be that as it may be. You have the puppies now, and getting them away from that fiend may have saved their lives. I absolutely am disgusted at how quickly people call the police or Animal Control, but if he still has dogs there, I think you should call them.
Dogs should not be covered in ticks. That is neglect. Fleas, well, fleas are, I dunno, never heard of anyone sitting in the hooscow because his dog had fleas, but if you are saying 3 or 5 week old pups are covered in ticks, that is flat out neglect and the guys dogs should be removed. Or at least, AC should be aware and keep him in their radar.
If he is elderly, then it is possible that he is slipping with how he manages his dogs, in any case, the way the puppies were kept is awful.

|Fablehill||Ugh!! I looked at the picture pages of puppies. They don't look anywhere near as big as some of the pups there. There could be a discrepancy in the age. The owner was elderly...he could have been a week or so off.|
