llombardo I think it's great if they can live in harmony. Most of mine were exposed to lots of ducks and geese and never bothered them. A couple days ago Midnite found a bird in the corner of the yard that couldn't fly. Instead of eating it he barked and let me know it was there. I got there and went to pick it up and it flew but just across the yard. At first Midnite didn't know where it went but he found it again. At this point I'm thinking he is going to eat it before I could get there, but all he did was nose it , like he was trying to get it to fly. I get there and I'm trying to catch the bird and Midnite is now sitting doing the famous GSD head tilt watching me, I'm sure it was comical to him. I caught the bird and Midnite seemed proud of himself, I sure was proud of him

Fiona vs the ducks

Since moving from a condo to a house with a yard, I have turned into a farmer. 3 months ago I started with 1 day old chicks. 1 month ago, I started with 1 day old ducks. Fiona has a pink kiddie pool in the backyard because she loves water play. I thought... Hey let's do double duty and put the ducks in there. I never leave Fiona alone with the ducks, but she likes to walk up to the pool to look at them. They usually swim to the other side muttering (not quacking yet).

Today, Fiona and I are sitting there watching the ducks, and Shanghai (female mallard) reaches out and pokes Fiona in the nose with her beak. Fiona jumped and made a weird noise and I laughed and laughed. I hope Fiona will have second thoughts about having a duck snack.
