|Nigel||Have him checked for an ACL tear. Sounds a lot like our dog Ranger, yelping, then seemingly ok or with a slight limp. Tried resting only to have the limp return. Look up torn cruciate ligament.|

|Axel13||I have actually been having the same problem recently with my baby boy Axel. I think the best thing to do is take him to the vet. There may be nothing wrong but it's better to be safe. I took Axel about it a few moths ago and he started limping again yesterday so I have to take him back at the start of next week.|

Since no one else has replied to this I thought I would give my 2 cents for what it is worth. I see that you are a new member just like myself but I feel like I have a world of knowledge thanks to my GSD Wall-E. They have a very high tolerance to pain and anytime they are playing they see that it pleases you. Pleasing master is priority #1. Since it has happened numerous times I would first take him to a vet and get an x-ray. That way you can be sure it isn't a broken bone. If the problem persists taking time off from active playtime and only long walks will help give whatever it is time to heal. 9 times out of 10 the vet will tell you to.... keep him on a close leash and no running/jumping/playing for a couple weeks.
Take it for what it is worth.
My pups medical records for what its worth as well (broken toes, ripped/broken dew claw (twice), 4 inch gash in right rear leg). He is only 2.

Back leg issue. Maybe pinched nerve?
My boy Junior is 3 years old and about a month or 2 ago I was throwing him a ball and he jumped to catch it and when he landed he started yelping really loud for 30 seconds to a minute holding his rear leg up, I was trying to calm him down rubbing his back leg and when he stopped yelping he got up real fast and starting running back and forth wanting me to throw the ball again, no limp at all. So in the past 2 months or so this has happened about 3 or 4 times, loud constant yelp, calm him down, then BAM ready to run again. Very strange any ideas what it could be?
