New to the forum and GSD's!

Hey, I'm Emily and I am completely new the the GSD world. This evening I'm picking up an 9 month old male GSD from a rescue about an hour away. I considered getting a puppy for months and months, but after thinking about it for a long time I decided to hook up with a rescue and see what came along. Finally, after months of waiting, a dog that fit me and what I am looking for came along!

Sarge is about 9-10 months old and was found as a stray and is full blood German Shepherd. He is an awesome dog and so excited to finally get him home.

What I will be using him for is a little unique - my family owns a large deer with a large number of bow hunters, and for years we have used Walker hounds to track wounded deer and blood trails. Late last year, out best tracking dog passed away and I started doing research on another type of dog we could use to track that could also be a family dog and companion. Walkers are a little schitzo, and not the smartest dogs and can be hard to train. After a lot of research, I settled on a GSD because it fits the majority of my needs/wants in a working and family dog.

We will start obedience training in a few weeks and then blood training closer to the fall! I hope to update his progress here!

Here are a few photos of him from the rescues website.
