Here are a few of Ollie's collars
Here is a sampling of Ollie's collars. I think the blue is the most striking with his coat. The black collars kind of get lost in his fur.
I like changing the dog's collars up for different seasons or events. I have a quick release loop for his tags so they can go from collar to collar easily. During the winter he sported a ski collar, during football season a University of Utah (until the team tanked and it was embarrassing to me and the dog), on our recent trip to the coast he got a new collar as a souvenir (argyle with anchors).
Since Ollie has a bit of a fierce look thanks to being a GSD and mostly black, our trainer suggested we go with cheerful collars and bandanas to help mellow his look and signal to people that he is a good boy. Not sure most people get close enough to notice his cool collars, but dog people notice and comment. I think he looks like a cub scout with his bandanas on.
When we picked him out of the litter, he was the puppy with the red collar so for a while I was trying to keep him in collars that had red on them in someway. Then someone in my neck of the woods started this campaign to use color coded collars and leashes on a popular trail to signal if your dog was friendly or not. Red collars/leashes were supposed to mean "please leave me alone, I'm not friendly" and yellow collars/leashes were supposed to mean the dog was shy or fearful. I don't think many people have really adopted this effort, but since Ollie doesn't need any help in the "just my everyday look scare people" category, I abandoned using red collars.

...I'm a collar addict. Ok I've said it.
My favorite one is his leather collar from Paco's but I guess I don't have a good pic of it. Just use your best judgement, or do what I've done and have enough for every day....btw this is less than 1/2 of his total collars...

She's not all black but Zazzle only wears purple collars.
It makes her easy to spot in group photos.

our 1.5 year old red sable female has at least 10 collars. one for each season, 2 christmas collars, and a bunch of girly pink collars with skull print or whatnot. right now she's wearing pink with alligators. it's all my wife's doing.
julie with her collar just for when it's snowing.
our 5 month old tan sable only has a solid black and his main collar is old school army camo. his name is rambo so it fits and his name tag is also camo. not much you can do with a boy so my wife will have a hard time turning him gay.
sorry no pic of rambo with his camo collar.

I used a red collar until he grew into the collar I bought for him a few months ago. I have to say it is really striking on him and you wouldn't think it would be. You would think it would blend in. It's black leather studded.

Lime green is my go-to color for black and dark dogs. It just looks good lol. I currently have a pink collar on my girl though, due to getting tired of hearing "HE is so big" "how old is HE" "hey BOY"
