lindsay1126 I have thanks, there is a place that sells it but its 45 min away. If I get desperate enough I will but when you add in how much I will pay in gas I could buy orijen locally. If price was not a concern it would be Orijen regionals (or even better RAW).

Fromm USA Retailers

lindsay1126 The main reason I am dropping fromms is that is not available locally. Samson did fine on it. Also, I had always planned to put him on a higher protein food when he was older. I am really considering ordering, but don't want to give up on buying locally. I am not paranoid about quality control but it is very important to me. The main reason I am worried about the calcium/phos levels is a month ago I lowered his food to what an adult dog his size should eat and he lost weight very quickly. The recommended amount is 4 cups for his size but he almost 2x that to keep weight up. His vet said he is perfectly healthy(no worms or parasites) and just to keep an eye on his weight. That's why I am worried he is still growing and worried about giving him a high calcium/phos food.

kr16 Acana is about to switch some formulas. I would guess that means it gets even more expensive. I still only use Acana and Orijen. When I open My pet food store coming soon. I will never have to pay again so I will stick with one of them.

Check out this food it just got added to the whole dog journals approved list

Great Life Dog Food

Says made in The USA which means nothing. Than it says the ingredients are from the USA. That is the better thing. Amazing how people get fooled when something says made in the USA. Made in Canada with Canadian ingredients is probably better

Samson was on acana(chicken and burbank and pacifica) for a bit and I really didn't see a difference in that and the Fromms, so I went back to Fromms. I have heard some bad things about Merricks quality control too. I am feeling so confused.
Yeah, it can definitely be a lot to go over! Merrick has had trouble with their treats, but not with their food as far as I know. Between all the brands you've mentioned, I would simply see which one your dog does best on and stick with it. If you're really paranoid about quality, I would do either Fromms or Orijen/Acana (both by Champion pet foods). They're both excellent foods and I don't think I've ever seen a quality control issue with either one of them.

A lot of it will depend on how well the dog does on the particular food. I personally LOVE Fromms, but my guy just always gets the runs on it. It doesn't mean it's a bad food, just that my individual dog doesn't do well on it. So I would see what works best for your individual dog, especially when considering foods that are all pretty much on the same level as far as quality.

Pax8 I know Merrick is a very good food, and from what I've read many GSD's do wonderfully on it. Mine didn't, unfortunately, but he's always been a bit of a diva when it comes to his food I would give it a try.

It is available locally, so now I am interested in them too. Anyone have experience? Also theirs is another that has high calcium/phos levels so I am still a little worried. Anyone know if I should wait to feed him a higher calcium food until he is older or is a year good? I am starting to worry about wellness as I can't figure out who manufactures their food. Thanks for the help.
