CharlieB.Barkin I know nothing about feeding raw but I heard that you should not feed different meats because they digest at different speeds. I don't know if there is any truth to that. Everyone here seems to be doing fine.

Harry and Lola Yes I think they suggest you stick to one protein at a time in the beginning to test for allergies.

Otherwise most mix proteins, I do all the time - bit of sheep liver, bit of ox heart, bit of pork, can sardines...........

Leahgirl Oh right, the first time raw eaters. Or either they were addressing food allergies. That makes more sense now.

I_LOVE_MY_MIKKO The only argument that I have ever heard against mixing protein sources is for when you are starting raw, so that if there is a reaction of any sort you know what caused it. I mix protein sources every day!

Mixing Protein Sources

Hi, all. I'm an avid raw BARF style feeder for about 7 months now. My girl is doing great on it, 9 months old, no issues. I'm just curious if anyone has heard the reason behind why some people advise not to mix protein sources in a meal. Now that I think about it I've read several articles saying basically the same thing but have never heard an explanation that made sense.

I have ALWAYS mixed protein sources since she was a baby. I don't see it as necessary so much as it's just easier to ensure balance and variety over a week for me. I've always thought the opposite, that mixing proteins in one meal actually might make the utilization more effiicient of vitamins/minerals/amino acids than giving all chicken, or pork, or whatever in one meal.

Thanks in advance.
