|Phantom||I just starting slowly grabbing muzzle between my hands( click+treat), then I would increase the time I held it before the treat, then I would start opening, doing the same thing. I also would pull her top lip up/bottom lip down, click and treat, increasing time For brushing, I would brush a tiny amount, click/treat, and increase how long I brushed before the treat. I have never trained a dog before her, so this may not work for your dog and could probably be dangerous with some, but it worked for her and she is now perfectly fine with pretty much anything I do with her muzzle and teeth.|

|Ellimaybel||I bought doggy toothpaste so when I'm looking at his teeth he's distracted by the toothbrush on one side of his mouth. It doesn't work perfectly but I can get in there without him thinking it's play time.|

|mego||You can try to stick peanut butter on your finger and while he's licking it off gently feel around his lip area and teeth. My dog also loves chicken flavored toothpaste so I'd brush her teeth with that (very hands-on-mouth experience) and it was very enjoyable for her|

Puppy doesn't like mouth/teeth touched
Just wondering if you guys have any tips on how to get our puppy to tolerate his teeth being examined.
He is 4 months old and the trainer at our obedience/agility club suggested handling his lips/gums and giving him treats. I've tried that but have to admit it really hasn't done much. He thrashes his head around, tries to nip at the hand, etc. He's also started teething which I don't think is helping.
Otherwise we've worked with him a lot on handling him and touching him. He is totally fine with his ears being handled, will let us clean his ears (though he expects a treat!), he is the easiest pup I've ever had when it comes to clipping nails, he's just very chill. He is also pretty good with being brushed, although sometimes does try to grab at the brush.
The teeth thing is the only one that I just can't make inroads with.
