Welcome to you.
I agree with Elli that this nipping is normal puppy behavior and as GSD's are herding dogs they tend to move us (their stock) by nipping sometimes. This is correctable. Since you have found the soft muzzle is affective I would say good, please just do not over use it.

I just want to say I have been reading posts on this site for almost four months & it has provided me with a wealth of information. I have raised puppies before; a black lab & a German shorthair pointer. Nothing had prepared me for my little GSD Luna! She is/was a holy terror! We got her at 7 weeks & she is now almost 5 months. Getting better everyday, but GSDs are are breed unto themselves!she is a bit of a mix. Mom is a white shephed& dad is a standard but 1/4 collie. From what I read all our little angels try to be dominant & herd us. Luna had a bad problem with biting our feet & legs in the house but seems to be growing out if it. She still does it on walks though. Which doesn't make sense as she loves walks! She is especially aggressive toward my ten yr old daughter. I have found that bringing a soft nylon muzzle for when she starts biting works. She wears it for a minute & then behaves. A work in progress. At least she is not a chewer! I have good news for all the new GSD puppy parents at their wits end: it really does get better! Hang in there! A month ago my stress level with her was at a 10- now its a 3
She is becoming a sweet loving dog. Her recall us amazing & she behaves great off leash & loves to swim. I have this blog to thank for my sanity. Thank you all!
